Title: Date Me (The Keatyn Chronicles, #3)
Author: Jillian Dodd
Release date: Tuesday, April 9, 2013
Genre: Romance
Age Group: Young Adult/New Adult

Blurb:
I’m not scripting my life anymore.
I’m living it.
I’m done with the God of all Hotties.
I’m going to give my heart to the boy who I think deserves it.
The boy whose kisses are hotter than molten lava.
The boy who offered me the key to his heart.
The boy who asked me to Homecoming in a big, sexy way.
There are so many things to look forward to.
Parties at the Cave. Homecoming festivities. Drama Tryouts. Shopping trips to NY.
But things aren’t always as perfect as they seem.
I find out that my best friend has been keeping a secret from me.
Not that I can blame him.
I have secrets too.
But, for now, I’m going to pretend I’m just a normal girl.
I’m going to pretend he’s not still out there.
I’m going to pretend he’s not getting desperate.
I’m going to pretend I’ll never see him again.
But, I will.
Excerpt:
After dinner, he parks his car down by the field house and leads me out onto the big green commons ground, where we played football and he kissed me in the grass.
My heels are sinking into the damp grass and I'm worrying about ruining the suede when he says, “This is where I first laid eyes on you."
“No, it’s not. We met at dinner, when you said Riley was a cheap imitation of the real thing.”
He scrunches up his nose. Kisses me. "You tease me about the worse kiss ever, but you're lucky I even talked to you. You were so mean.”
I laugh. “You were a jerk and, besides, I apologized.”
“Still, this is where I first saw you. When you stole the soccer ball from me.”
I remember that day so vividly. Like it was a scene out of a movie. I felt free and fearless. I could’ve never done something like that at my old school.
I glance over at the goal. The spot where I first saw Aiden.
I can still feel that instant connection.
But I’ve learned that instant connections aren’t enough. Sparks aren’t enough.
My mom always says that life is about the choices you make. And I know that I’ve made the right choice. The smart decision.
Because I’m here with Dawson.
“You didn’t have a shirt on that day. I thought you were gorgeous."
"I thought you were crazy." He laughs and grabs a piece of my hair, twirling it lightly on his finger. "Crazy, but hot. So, Keatie, will you be my girlfriend?" His big brown eyes glitter in the moonlight.
Our relationship has been all backwards. Bad first impressions. Bad manners. Bad kisses. Sex way too soon. My supposed rebound could have gone horribly wrong in so many ways.
But it hasn't. It's been better than I could have scripted.
"I'd love to be your girlfriend, Dawson."
He undoes the necklace. I turn around and lift my hair up, while he clasps the key to his heart around my neck.
Of course, once he has it clasped he attacks my neck with his mouth.

BLURB:
Working undercover is nothing new for DEA Agent Rory Johnston. In the years following her sister’s death, she’s been involved in investigations in more high schools and colleges than she cares to count. The case in Bourland is different, though. Not only is she supposed to find the source of the drugs on the college campus, she also has a secret assignment - find the dirty cop within the department who has been responsible for having their informants killed.
Zachary Rowlins is the officer Rory must work with in her new assignment - but for all she knows, he might be the dirty cop. When Zach is unexpectedly pulled from the case, he discovers that the corruption within the department goes much deeper than either of them suspected. Zach finds himself in a race against time to save his partner knowing one thing - if he loses Rory, he’ll lose more than just a partner. He’ll lose his future as well.
REVIEW BY SARAH:
Rory Johnston (a.k.a. Kennedy O’Donovan) is an undercover agent going into a university to find out who’s dealing the ecstasy that’s been killing students, including her twin sister. Her partners, Christian O’Donovan and Zachary Rowlins, the lead detectives on the case in the narcotics unit, aren’t too happy to have her there. Christian is pissed because she’s his half-sister, and Zach is upset… well, I won’t reveal too much.
As Rory gets deeper into the university, into the party scene, and into the theater department, she gets deeper into trouble. While the mystery is a little shaky, the romance between Rory and Zach is fiery hot.
Rory, who is only 22, is one of those wish-I-could-be-her characters, in a totally good way. She is an undercover agent (though not a full cop), a genius, and a brilliant actress, but she has enough flaws to keep her balanced – including claustrophobia and a fear of water. Zachary, while totally hot, sexy, and smart, has his flaws as well, rounding him out to make him believable. Overall, the characters in this book are great, though I wish the antagonists had a little more motivation. Or, that it was developed more.
The plot was a little slow. There was so much great character development, though, that it keeps you turning pages. A little adjustment to the mystery, throw in some minor catastrophes, and Ms. Gray’s got a real winner for sure. One thing I think Ms. Gray did really well -and it’s not an easy thing to do well either – is switching the point of view to different characters to give different points of view. I was never confused about whose eyes we were looking through.
As a romance, I give this book 5 Zs, and as a mystery, 4 Zs, for a total of 4.5 Zs. Definitely worth reading. I am definitely recommending this book to my friends when it comes out!
Rated 5 Z's

Excerpt:
Axel reached out and touched the soft flesh of the woman. He'd been given the gift of a hellion with the face of an angel. Her cheek fit perfectly in his palm as he cupped her face. Her eyes flickered in response, shifting from a playful, yellow glow to a deep, primal, amber hue. He drew his finger down her shoulder and observed the heated silk of her skin.
HOT!! I have become a lifelong fan of Jaye Shields. Claiming of a Sex Demon was a different kind of book for me and it drew me in and left me hungry for more. Confessions of a Sex Demon was able to quinch my hunger but left me with a problem. I have become a junkie and the only thing that is going to satisfy me now is...ADDICTIONS OF A SEX DEMON!!
This book was all that I expected from Jaye and more!! Sephina will always hold a special place for me simply because I connected with her. I understand the depths of her despair and the darkness she struggles to keep at bay. Axel is one of those amazing men that comes along when we are at our lowest and makes us realize that there is a person that sees the real us, and loves us because of it. The description that Jaye uses when talking about Axel's demon race, is descriptive enough that I can see his wings exploding with vibrancy and smoke! :) I also love that she brought Zahra and Lennox into Axel's world. I have a crush on Lennox, but Axel; well, that's one man that makes me burn!
There are always books that will hold a special place in my heart. Jaye's books fit that category.
I am honored to have been asked to take part in Jaye's Blog tour and even more excited to be able to introduce Jaye as my VERY FIRST AUTHOR INTERVIEW!! <insert fangirl squeals here>

BRANDY FROM ROMANCEBOOKWORM'S REVIEWS: First of all I want to say thank you for being here, Jaye. How excited are you right now for the release of your newest book, Addictions of a Sex Demon?
JAYE SHIELDS: You have no idea how excited I am. I’ve been waiting for Addictions of a Sex Demon to come out since forever. Ever since I wrote Confessions of a Sex Demon, I’ve been dying to tell Sephina’s story. I felt like I should write Claiming of a Sex Demon first though because it was a bit of a prequel and I thought Lennox’s back story might be interesting. Addictions of a Sex Demon written, edited by my fabulous editor, was ready to go quite some time ago, but we had to wait for my other releases first, lol, so the wait has been agonizing because this third book is my favorite! I adore Sephina. I think she’s tortured, she has problems, but she wants to overcome them. And well, she cracks me up. She kind of reminds me a bit of Sparrow from my book, Secrets of the Sky (from my Immortals in Alameda trilogy) because they both have a great sense of humor. Actually, I love them so much that I wrote a fanfiction of characters from my books hanging out at a demon karaoke bar together. Sparrow and Sephina were a crack-up. When they co-mingle, mischief abounds.
BRANDY: Now I have to hunt down your fanfic because I can just imagine them together! I saw on your website that you were a bass player in a grunge band. Do you still play or have you left your grunge days behind?
JAYE: The guitarist contacts me every once and ever so often, and its possible that some day we could do a reunion show, but I live so far away (in another state now) its just not possible. I still love music now though and I play my guitar a lot and write love songs (or breakup songs) about the men in my life. I suck at singing though. When I was in the Hymens I was supposed to do joint vocals on a cover of Imagine, but I chickened out with the time came lol. Playing bass in front of a bunch of people is one thing, singing is another altogether. Especially when you suck. Like I do ;) I love poetry though and making music so I do it anyway.
BRANDY: I love to sing but can just imagine what I sound like! <insert cringing here! LOL!> I have to ask, did you sign autographs as Britney Spears in Tokyo or did you correct the mistake?
JAYE: I offer proof via photo evidence of just how shameless I am. I didn’t correct him, and even if I did, he wouldn’t have understood because he didn’t speak English. In my own defense, I did sign my real name, not Britney Spears lol. I don’t even look like Britney Spears (or anyone famous) so I think it was just because I was in the middle of nowhere in Japan and I was tall and blonde. After he left on his little bike he came pedaling back to offer me his juice box. It was so cute. I love Japan.

BRANDY: That is too funny! He is a cute little guy though! I love unusual storylines and yours is definitely that. Why did you choose to write about sex demons?
JAYE: Um….I plead the fifth? Tee-hee *Enter mischievous grin here* Well, what happened was that I had written my Immortals in Alameda trilogy (sensual romance) and I couldn’t get any agents or editors to even read a page of it. My critique partner mentioned that my love scenes were pretty hot and I should try to write an erotic romance since that genre was taking off. I was walking to a coffee shop to write such a story and I wanted to think of a title that would draw people in. Confessions of a Sex Demon slammed into me about a block after I left my tiny studio apartment. By the time I reached the coffee shop I had the whole story planned out. Sex Demons that need climax to survive. Hot, semi-psychotic blacksmith, Sex fiend/closet romantic succubus. It was so fun to write and it ended up in my very first contract offers a week after I submitted it. I went from not being able to get anyone to even read a page of what I’d written, to getting to choose between dif publishers.
BRANDY: I am in love with the your demons and have to admit they are hot! Do you have any designs to expand the Sex Demon Trilogy? <Fangirl hinting and begging for more!!>
JAYE: Oh yes. Pretty much anytime I write a character, even if they only have one line, I get obsessed with the idea of telling their story. I would love to write a whole spinoff of sex demon stories about the going ons of the whorehouse that Seph ends up owning. But that won’t happen any time soon because I already have a list of stories that I need to finish before that. Right now I’m 50k into my very first contemporary so I’m dying to finish that because I think people will really enjoy it.
BRANDY: A contemporary? Oh, yeah! I know that there are a lot of authors that base their characters off themselves. Do you feel that your characters represent some of your own traits?
JAYE: Definitely. Actually, when people I know read these books, no matter what character it is, they see bits of me in the characters. At first, it really freaked out some of my fam members. Every character represents a different aspect of my personality I think.
BRANDY: I can imagine what they thought when they read the Sex Demons!! Being an author is not an easy task and you do it well. How did you get started in writing?
JAYE: I’ve been writing as long as I can remember. My mom and dad often pull out books that I’d written when I was in elementary school. My mom just showed me one recently from second grade and I was already dedicating books to her. As I got older (middle school) I wrote novel-length fan fiction (prepare yourself for my geek moment) for Lord of the Rings. When I was in high school I focused mostly on poetry and song writing. My first two years of college, I started a bunch of stories, I’d get about 30k into them, and get distracted onto a different story idea, and leave the prior tale unfinished. It was my junior year when I finally said, no more story switching. You’re going to finish one, damn it! And I did J And then I wrote the next two in the trilogy. These became the stories in my Immortals in Alameda trilogy from Crimson Romance.
BRANDY: I am a book and author junkie, so I have to ask, do you have a favorite author?
JAYE: I love Kresley Cole. She’s a no-fail for me. A lot of my other favorite authors have been more touch and go for me. I used to love JR Ward, but I’m less obsessed lately. Same for me with Sherrylon Kenyon and Gena Showalter. Lately I’ve been mostly reading my talented indie-author peers. It’s refreshing to discover new authors and read words and plots that catch you by surprise.
BRANDY: I know what you mean. My no-fails are Lynsay Sands and Julia Quinn. I am discovering a lot of indie-authors and love them too! Can you tell us three interesting things about yourself that might not be common knowledge?
JAYE: 1.) I have a cat named Nyx (after one of my favorite Kresley Cole characters) 2.) I just recently fell in love. He went out of his way to bring me some cake before we’d ever gone out. Then when we did go out, he took some pictures of me (he’s a photographer) and after I saw the pictures, I realized just how he looked at me. I’d never felt so beautiful, or so understood. I realized then that we were soulmates. 3.) On a less sexy and romantic note…I love fishing and I’ve caught a fish nearly as big as me. The same day I also caught a squid and it sprayed black ink all over the boat. Ew.
BRANDY: That is disgusting but I grew up on the beach so I know how those things go! What are the BEST things about being a published author?
JAYE: Realizing your dream has come true and knowing you can do anything you put your mind to. Being able to touch or entertain people with your words and characters.
BRANDY: I think you just described the reason I got into writing! What are the worst things about being a published author?
JAYE: Being open to scrutiny. I haven’t gotten any bad reviews yet, but I know they’ll come as my audience widens.
BRANDY: That has got to be the hardest part. Knowing someone didn't like something that is essentially part of you. Any advice that you would like to share with aspiring authors?
JAYE: Don’t give up. Keep writing. Do whatever makes you happy, and always do it for that reason. Don’t write to be published, because it could be a while. Don’t do it to make money because you probably wont. Do it because you love getting lost in characters, worlds, words.
BRANDY: Thank you so much for taking the time to do this! I am so excited to have you as my very first Author Interview and I am looking forward to more incredible stories!
JAYE: Thank you so much, Brandy. It was a super fun interview and I hope I haven’t talked WAY too much. You can tell I’m a writer because I talk far too much, lol. I’m so glad that you enjoyed the Sex Demon trilogy because I had a blast writing it!
XOXO JAYE

Can the quiet bookstore owner land the playboy?
Alyssa Duncan’s life revolves around books. If not for the fact the town’s playboy Connor Phillips has a secret reading addiction, she most likely wouldn’t be on his radar…or his friend. The two personalities just don’t mesh…or do they? She gets a chance to find out when a book-reading bet leads to dinner. Alyssa experiences a wide a range of emotions. She’s elated her beyond-friendship feelings seem returned, but his reputation precedes him. Is she just another gullible female in a string of women? As a relationship begins to develop with Connor, going past the limits of friendship, things grow muddled and complicated when an ex-boyfriend shows up in town and things aren’t what they seem.
When the dust finally settles, will Alyssa find true love with someone or end up with just another friend?
Excerpt:
As Alyssa opened the book to chapter one, her phone chirped, letting her know she’d received a text. She decided to ignore it. She never liked to be disturbed when she read. But whoever it was didn’t want to be ignored, since her phone chirped again.
Alyssa groaned, dug it out of her purse, and read the two messages.
Can I come up? – Connor
Put the book down and let me in. *wink wink* - Connor
She giggled and wondered what he stopped by for, especially since she’d just seen him on a date. The new book he wanted didn’t come out until next week. She made her way back downstairs to the bookstore, where she saw Connor standing at the door, smiling while holding two paper cups she assumed was coffee. God, he was a sight. Dark, almost black hair that he always wore with that just-out-of-bed look, with ice-blue eyes that bore into one’s soul.
She unlocked the door and let him in. “Hey, Connor. What can I do for you?”
He handed her a coffee. “It’s Sunday evening and you’re closed tomorrow, which means you’ll be on a reading binge tonight. Figured you could use some coffee.”
She grinned. He knew her so well. Too bad he’d never see her the way she did him. “I picked up a historical romance.”
“Did you try the book I recommend yet?”
Sci-fi wasn’t for her. She had tried it, but couldn’t get into it. “Soon.”
“I don’t believe you. Maybe we should take a bet.” He leaned against the wall.
“A bet? Are you serious?”
“Dead serious. I bet by the end of the week you still haven’t read it.”
She took a sip of her drink. Ah, her favorite. Mocha with a splash of raspberry. “What are the terms of this bet?”
“If you have, dinner’s on me. If you haven’t, dinner’s on you. And I warn you, I have expensive taste.”
Alyssa’s heart fluttered. Dinner? A meal together? They’d never gone anywhere. In fact, she didn’t know if anyone knew they were even friends.
Connor reached out, touching her shoulder. “Do we have a deal?”
Oh God, she was supposed to speak. She wasn’t sure that part of her was working any longer. “Uh-huh.”
Connor grinned at her, a dimple forming on his cheek. “What’s the matter? Cat got your tongue?”
No, a cat did not have her tongue. In fact, if a cat did, she was pretty sure she’d be screaming right about now, not being mute.
“You kinda threw me off, asking me to dinner.”
“Oh, I’m sorry. Was that something you weren’t interested in?”
Ha ha, there wasn’t a woman around who didn’t want to have dinner and more with Connor Phillips. She just never thought it would be her. “We have a deal.”
“Good.”
Alyssa wondered if this meant he might be interested in her. That he could possibly have eyes for her. As she stared at him with a God-knew-what kind of smile on her face, she didn’t notice at first the blonde bombshell she’d seen earlier was now standing outside waiting. Alyssa glanced back at Connor, who caught her focus and turned to glance at the woman.
“Crap, I forgot about her.”
Alyssa raised an eyebrow. “Date?”
“For this evening.”
Her heart sank. Connor wasn’t interested in her. She would never look like blondie out there. He wanted to take her out as a friend. That was it. It was time she realized it and the fact they would never be anymore than they were. And after tonight, the woman standing out in the cold would know the same thing.
“I guess I better get out there.” He took a sip of his drink and stepped away from the wall.
“Yeah, she seems a little mad.”
Connor leaned closed and whispered to her, “She’ll get over it.” He brushed a light kiss on her cheek. This was the first time he’d ever been that close to her.
The woman outside tapped on the door, obviously not liking what she had seen.
“You better go,” Alyssa said. “Besides, I think my dinner’s cold. I’d just taken it out of the microwave before you got here.”
“Enjoy your meal and the coffee as well.” He waved and then went back out the door, greeting the woman waiting for him.
Alyssa wanted to watch but didn’t. It was hard enough knowing the man she secretly fantasized about was once again out with another woman.
Review:
A bookworm after my own heart! Alyssa is living my dream of running a bookstore. She has always had a crush on the town badboy Connor and is delighted everytime she sees him. Connor is intrigued with the feelings that Alyssa inspire in him and would love to get to know her better. A simple bet starts them down the path.
I like Cody and think there is a story there as well. Lacey has a way of dragging you into the lives of the characters she creates. Diane is a self absorbed little witch but you ache a little for her and wonder what happened to make her that way. Matt is an ass that needs to be smacked but the humor of that whole situation, well you just need to read the book. :)

SYNOPSIS:
Britt Anderson went along with everything the doctors said for nearly four years, but she was still dying at eighteen. The cancer had won leaving her without a future, without any options, and without control. No control, except for how she would leave this world. As Britt tries to end her life by going into the frigid waters she realizes her mistake. She struggles to get back to shore, to cry out for help, but her atrophied muscles are useless and the frigid water steals the breath from her chemo-scarred lungs. As Britt relishes her new cancer-free life and senior year of high school, her very existence threatens Allister’s place in this world. Allister struggles to keep Britt a secret from the Eternal Council and out of the hands of the only Eternal who already knows the truth: the one who stole her guardian angel.

REVIEW:
I am willing to read just about anything but I wasn't sure if I would be able to read this. My husband is battling cancer so I find it difficult to read books that involve a battle with this serial killer. I am so glad I took a shot on this book.
Britt is dying. She is 18 years old and cancer is taking her life. She convinces her parents to take her camping one last time. As she sits at the edge of a waterfall, she realizes that she is ready to end it all. The pain is unbearable and she wants to end it on her own terms. Sinking into the water she realizes that she is a fighter.
Waking up on the way to the hospital after drowing, Britt knows something happened. By the time she reaches the hospital it is obvious. What do you do when you gain a second chance at life? This story was difficult for me in the beginning but the story is overwhelming. CS has managed to create a whole new paranormal world for me and I love it. Allister is the main male character in this story but I have to admit that I am a Gabe fan and can't wait for more!

BLURB:
If being forced to team up with reality TV’s favorite bad girl wasn’t enough, falling for her brother might just make this reality show a real nightmare.
Paige Anderson agrees to be on a new reality show called Treasure Trekkers, a show where contestants use handheld GPS units to find hidden caches filled with prizes, with her good friend Cassidy. But when Cassidy is unable to compete, Chip Cormack, the show’s producer, steps in with a last-minute replacement to be Paige’s partner - Zoe Oliver, reality TV’s favorite bad girl.
Jack Miles (aka Miles) is a mountain climber with the body to prove it. Miles convinced his climbing partner Ben to come on the show with him for one reason - to prove to Ben that they can still hike together, regardless of the fact that Ben lost his foot in a tragic accident. Miles isn’t about to let anything get in his way of winning - not even beautiful Paige.
But when Miles and Paige are thrown into an alliance with their teammates, working closely together leads to more than just good strategy. Can Paige steal Miles’ heart while surviving Zoe long enough to win the game?
EXCERPT:
“Welcome, everyone, to the first season of Treasure Trekkers, the show that will have you racing for treasures in caches hidden around the New York metropolitan area as well as the lower Hudson Valley.” He paused to smile for the camera a moment before continuing on. “You never know what surprise you’ll find in the next cache. Perhaps you’ll find money, or a fantastic trip for two. Maybe you’ll even find the keys to a new car!”
The contestants cheered. Even Paige who was normally pretty quiet and reserved cheered at the idea of being able to win really awesome prizes along the way without having to win the whole show. Even with Cassidy as her teammate, the chances of winning the adventure show were pretty slim for two girls who weren’t exactly athletic or outdoorsy. Winning a few prizes could go a long way to making Paige more comfortable in life. Her salary as a freelance graphic artist covered the bills, but little else. But at least she could take time off whenever she wanted.
“Speaking of surprises, we’re starting off the show with a big one.” Spencer motioned for Cassidy to come and stand beside him instead of off to the side where she had been next to Chip. “I’m sure most of you have already noticed that one of our teams of two is currently a team of one. But not for long.”
Paige felt her insecurity creeping up into her cheeks. She hated being the center of attention. Why had she ever agreed to come on this new show? Was a free trip, an interesting experience, and time spent with her good friend really worth all this?
Spencer gestured to her. “Paige has been patiently waiting for her teammate to show up and here she is with me. Cassidy, why don’t you tell everyone why you’re here with me instead of over there with your teammate.”
Cassidy glanced around the small gathering, smiling as she found the spot where Evan stood filming. Then her eyes met Paige’s quickly before settling back on Spencer.
“Well, um, there’s been a little change of plans.”
What change of plans? No one spoke to me about any changes and I’ve been here all day.
“I was supposed to run the race with Paige.” Cassidy caught Paige’s gaze again, her expression clearly apologetic for what she was about to say. “But I’m sorry. I can’t run the race with you.”
Can’t run the race? I can’t run it alone.
“And why is that?” Spencer asked even though he absolutely had to already know the answer. But America didn’t and neither did Paige.
How? Why? What could possibly make it okay for Cassidy to think she could abandon Paige at the last minute like this? Her chest tightened at the thought of having to run it alone. Or drop out before they even started.
Damn. Getting voted out in the third round on The One was bad enough, but now she was about to be kicked off in the first episode of a show where everyone was supposed to compete until the end. This wasn’t fair.
Cassidy looked away from Paige and back to Evan, a smile coming to her lips. “Because…
REVIEW:
Paige got her book and I loved it! When Paige is asked to do another reality show this time with her best friend as her partner, she agrees. I fun race-style show to win some cash and prizes sounds like some girl-bonding time. That is until the show is about to start and her best friend can't do it. What happens when your nightmare becomes the person that you have to work with? YIKES!
Miles is the type of friend that we all want to have, secrets and all. He feels responsible for an accident and will do anything to set it right.
Heather is an amazingly talented writer and I have had the honor and privilege of working on a couple of her tours. She will continue to be one of those authors that I hunt out to make sure I have read everything that I can! She has a way of making you connect to the characters and I love that!

Follow her journey as she learns to trust and love herself, and watch her grow as she finds love. But will an issue from her past rise up to ruin her new life?
EXCERPT:
"It has to happen at some point," my inner confidence argues. "Screw it, take a chance."
"You know what? Actually, I'd like that," I laugh, watching Drew's mouth fall open in surprise. Taking his hand, I lead him to the bathroom.
"You sure about this?" he asks.
"Yeah," I answer, turning to look at him. "Are you?" Drew drops my hand, and for a split second, I'm afraid he was just teasing about the shower. Then he shuts the bathroom door, kicks off his shoes, and grins. "Oh no," he says, spreading his arms wide. "I can't seem to undress without help."
"Ha! You didn't even try!" Heat fills my face. I've never stripped anyone but myself before.
"And risk injuring myself more?" He shakes his head. "I think I'm going to have to report you to the nursing board, Miss Keaton."
Just do it. You can't live in fear.
"Well, we can't have that, now can we? Surely, sir, there must be something I can do to appease your temper," I tease, placing a hand gently on his chest, looking up at him as innocently as possible.
His breath catches, his eyes widening. "Well, I'm sure if you try really hard, we can think of something."
It takes us forever to get him out of his shirt, both of us in turn laughing and groaning as we figure out how to get the shirt off without hurting him. Catching sight of the healing incisions on his chest, I look up at him.
"Can you get those wet?"
"Yep, sure can. They're glued or something, so I'm good as long as I'm not stressing the glue. Water is fine," he assures me, reaching out to slowly lift the hem of my yoga top.
"Oh," I whisper, heat beginning to leave my face and pool instead between my thighs, as he steps back with my shirt in his hands, taking in my ugly sport bra, struggling to keep control of my breasts.
"Does that work?" he asks quietly, lifting my chin and urging me to meet his eyes.
"The, um, the bra?" I ask stupidly.
"Yeah. Does it help in your classes? Because it doesn't look comfortable." He reaches toward me again, flicking one of the many hook closures down the front. It pops open easily, leaving the bra with a "v" neck appearance.
"Um, it helps, some," I answer, blushing as he flicks another hook open. He works his way down the front of the bra, and though the fabric spreads, it doesn't fall away. I swallow, gasping, standing helplessly as he cups my breasts, spreading the bra with his fingers until it suddenly springs free.
REVIEW:
I am absolutely 100% in love with Brandi Kennedy! I once was just as damaged as Cass. I took the words, looks and attitudes of those around me and projected it onto myself. Cass has been hurt by the people in her life and has always felt that no one saw past the extra weight on her body to the woman that she was.
When she meets Drew Kingsley she is amazed that he thinks she is pretty and she waits for the shoe to drop off. She has been brutalized by her foster brother, Rick for so long that she can't imagine that a man will truly want her. She is astonished that Drew is what he says he is and wants her like no other.
I can't begin to thank Brandi enough. She has written the book that I have imagined reading a thousand times before. A true telling of a plus sized woman who knows she has faults but finds the strength to overcome them. With the help of a good man who loves her for the person she is, Cass becomes a wonderful well-rounded (no pun, intended) person. Like Cass, I was lucky to find my Drew Kingsley and married him.
To the plus-sized girls, don't ever give anyone control of you. My husband taught me that those who are slinging hateful words at you are more than likely jealous of you. Let it roll off and don't give them the power or satisfaction. I can't wait for the next in this series by this fantastic author!

AUTHOR INTERVIEW:
Brandy (Romancebookworm's Reviews) I love how you describe yourself on your blog. Every day we struggle to maintain our desire to grow and learn but to be true to ourselves. Do you find it difficult to maintain a balance between family time and writing time?
Brandi (Author)I do struggle sometimes, to find the right balance of time between family and writing. There are days when I want to just play with my kids, and then for a little while, I'm resentful of that inner need to write. I get resentful of these characters always busy in my head and tugging me away from the puzzles and the legos. But then I remember that there's no rush, you know, and that this is why I love it ... I don't HAVE to do it today. I don't have to do it tomorrow either. Especially with being self-published, I'm my own boss. I can put out a book a month, or a book a year. I can go entirely at my own pace. Right now, my kids are 9 and 3 so they need me, and they won't always be here. So I do try to spend a good deal of time putting the writing aside and giving them more of myself. Someday, though, they'll both be in school, and not long after that, they'll be gone and living their own lives. That's when I'll write like a fiend, to get through that abundance of quiet time.
Brandy: I love how you put it, “I am simply “from” where I’m “from”. As your writing takes off, do you find that it is difficult to be just you or have you developed a different persona for your writing life?
Brandi: First, let me say that I love that you took the time to see that. It's no fancy work or anything and hardly very original, as it's from an old meme that used to circle the net, sort of a writing prompt that I fell in love with. But it's such an adequate way to express myself and where I grew up, the memories that reside in that place where I spent my childhood. I'd like to think that for the most part, I'm still true to that girl who grew up on the side of the river, in a small town with a small but fiery family and a small circle of friends that were closer than blood. Still, that was a cocky girl who was full of fancy and dreams ... I'd like to think that I'm a more mature version now, maybe a bit more professional. At least, sometimes.
Brandy: I always like to ask my authors during interview if they could tell us 3 things about themselves that might not be common knowledge.
Brandi: Hmm, you want secrets, then, do you? Let's see what I can give. I think it's best we start with spiders. They horrify me, Really though, it's pretty much anything smaller than me that has more legs than I do. Spiders, scorpions, bees, roaches, rats. I'm scared of pretty much all of it. Secret number two? I'm afraid to go outside after dark. Not because I'm afraid of the dark, but because I'm terrified of who or what might be in the dark. I don't even take my dog out at night without calling someone first, so that I'm not "alone" in the yard at night. Number three? My biggest fear is Alzheimer's. I'd rather die any sort of horrific death, even a painful, lonely one ... I can't imagine anything worse than forgetting myself, my children, my family. I can't imagine knowing that every day I spend on the earth is one that renders me more and more helpless, and even that basic knowledge slips away as I fall into oblivion. I value my memories, even the bad ones, so greatly, I just couldn't imagine having them all slip away. And having a terribly flighty mind as it is, just makes the fear that much worse. Every time I lose my keys or forget where I parked, I'm convinced I've got Alzheimer's.
Brandy: Are your girls excited about the direction that Mom’s writing is going? I am a mom of boys and they are always curious to what authors I am reviewing for and how the blog is going.
Brandi: Well, the youngest is really more pouty than anything. She's spent three years with a mother who had no job, nothing to do but mother her, because I've been a stay at home mom for as long as I've been a mom. So it's been an adjustment for them. And my little one, now she hears me regularly say, "You'll need to sit and play on your own for a little while so Mommy can work, and then I'll play that with you when I'm finished." I think my older daughter has adjusted better and is pretty happy about it most days though. She's always really excited when my books come to me in the mail and she can hold them. I don't let her read them, of course, but she loves seeing herself mentioned in the dedications, and she likes that there's real proof of why I'm always tapping away on the computer. She's been after me to write her a tween series.
Brandy: was raised in the south and I noted that you crochet and knit. Is that something you have taught your daughters? My mom taught me how to do blankets but it never really stuck! LOL!
Brandi: Well, I've always been one of those "crafty" people. I wanted to learn to crochet as a child, and I learned from my grandmother on my father's side. Eventually I forgot, but it wasn't something I ever let go of. So after a while, I re-taught myself, then I taught myself to knit. I also know a few basic embroidery stitches. I can't sew though; for some reason my stitches always fall apart. If I had to have a favorite craft though, it's furniture building. There's nothing that makes you feel powerful like standing back and looking at a piece of furniture you designed and built with your own hands. Someday my house will be chock-full of things I built on my own.
Brandy: I love that you brought an overweight character to life. As a plus-sized woman and author myself, I find that it gets old having the same type of female characters. Did you find that it was difficult to bring life to Cass?
Brandi: Thanks for loving Cass like that, she needed it. You know, I think a lot of the plus-sized community is tired of that. So many of these books are full of perfect men and women. I know we read to escape reality, but for me, I need enough reality to make the fantasy of a book seem livable. And for a plus-sized American woman, that usually means a little extra weight. Crooked boobs, dimpled hips, or tree-trunk thighs. We can't all look like supermodels, but you know, we don't all have to hate what we look like. The world is full of women in all sizes, and they can all be beautiful, from Tyra Banks to Melissa McCarthy. That actually made it easy to give life to Cass. Aside from the fact that she's so much made up of parts of me, she's a real woman already, so she wasn't hard. She's fat, she's sensitive, she's self-conscious, and she's terrified of being rejected by the world over something as shallow as her appearance. Now tell me, who can't relate to that?
Brandy: My grandmother was a foster parent for many years and I know how deep their fears and issues can go. Did you find that this was a difficult subject to write about?
Brandi: I knew a lot of kids growing up who were in foster homes, and I knew a lot of kids who had horrible childhoods. Through my school years, I knew abandoned kids, I knew unwanted kids, I knew beaten and abused kids. I knew raped and molested kids. It's not hard for me to write about that kind of thing, because in so many ways, I've been there. I've experienced things some people wouldn't make it through, and I've experience so much through the lives of the people who've walked in and out of my life over the years. It's maybe hard to read about death, or drugs, or rape, or self-esteem and the temptation of suicide. But those are the things that make these characters real to us as readers; we need to relate to them in order to love them.
Brandy: Any thoughts or words of wisdom to pass on to other writers?
Brandi: Don't quit. If you're scared of writing a novel, work on a short story. If you can't do that, work on a poem, or a paragraph. If you want to write, then write. Practice really does make perfect. And you do what you can, when you can, however you can. Because if it's what you're meant to do, you'll have a passion for it, a burning need to see it and do it and have it be real. So you reach for that, and you keep trying. But don't let that passion overtake your discipline. Don't be lazy about it. Don't skip the editing, or the proofreading. Don't skimp on the effort, and don't run from criticism. Accept it, grow from it. Otherwise, you can't succeed in it. You need a strong heart and a thick skin. But you can develop that. If I did, anyone can.
Thank you so much, Brandi! It was amazing to talk to you and get to know you a little bit!
