Uncovering You

Series- Book # 1

By- Scarlett Edwards

Expected Publication Date- March 27, 2014

Genre- Dark Romance

When I wake up in a dark, unfamiliar room, I have no idea what's waiting for me in the shadows. My imagination conjures up demons of the worst kind.

Reality is much worse:

A collar with no leash. A prison with no walls. And a life stripped of meaning.

I am presented with a vile contract and asked to sign. It outlines the terms of my servitude. The only information I have about my captor are the two small letters inked at the bottom:

Armed with only my memories, I must do everything I can to avoid becoming ensnared in his twisted mind games. But in the end, it all comes down to one choice:

Resist and die.

Or submit, and sign my life away

And now an Excerpt from 'Uncovering You'

Oh God. It’s him. There’s no mistaking that rich, masculine treble.

What’s he doing down here?

“M-Mr. Stonehart,” I stutter, turning. I curse my inability to hide my surprise. He totally caught me off-guard. I have to look up to meet his eyes. Then up some more.

The face that I find is so striking it should belong to a Greek god.

He’s younger than I expected. Late thirties, maybe early forties.

That means he started his company when he was younger than me!

Dark scruff lines his angular cheeks. His jet-black hair is styled in long, natural waves. My fingers itch to run through it.

Totally inappropriate.

He has a prominent nose that might be too big on a less imposing man, but on him, it’s perfect.

In short, he’s a package of the purest masculinity I’ve ever seen.

And then there are his eyes. Oh my God. His eyes. They pierce into me like honing missiles. They are the deepest black I have ever seen. They would be frightening if they weren’t so beautiful. When the light reflects a certain way, you catch a glimpse of the purple underneath.

They are like midnight sapphires. His eyes reveal a cunning intellect. Those eyes do not miss a thing.

Add all that to his towering height, his wide shoulders, his confident-yet-at-ease posture… and Stonehart cuts an intimidating figure.

My gaze darts to his left hand before I can stop it. No ring. He’s unmarried.

He looks down at me, expectantly. His eyes narrow ever so slightly, and I feel like I’m being dissected, measured up, and tucked away in some small corner of his brain. I imagine this is what a gemstone feels like under the magnifying class of the most critical appraiser.

Stonehart clears his throat. I come to with a start, realizing I haven’t said anything in ages. I open my mouth, but the capacity for speech seems like a foreign concept to my brain. “I—”

Somebody bumps into me from behind. I stagger forward. I’m not used to these shoes, so my heel steps the wrong way. My ankle twists under me, and I start to fall.

I don’t fall far. The hand still on my elbow tightens, and Stonehart pulls me into him.

I plaster myself onto the solid steel wall the man has for a body. I catch a scent of his cologne. It’s a deep, musky smell with a hint of charred spruce that is all male. It scrambles my thoughts even more.

“Sorry!” a rushed voice calls out. From the corner of my eye, I see the postman giving a hurried, apologetic wave.

Although the sequence lasts less than a second, it feels like an eternity. Pressed up against him like that, I don’t want to move. I know that I couldn’t have made a worse first impression.

Stonehart eases me off him with a firm yet gentle grip. Our eyes meet. I flush the most vibrant red. His fingers graze my forehead as he brushes a lock of hair out of my face.

Any tenderness I may have imagined vanishes when Stonehart takes out his cell. He long dials a key and growls an order. “Steven. See the delivery boy leaving right now? Have his building pass revoked.”

I gape. Stonehart keeps speaking. “Wait. I thought of one better. Bar his company from accessing the building.” There’s a pause. “For how long? Indefinitely. FedEx can talk to me when they have an improved employee selection program in place.”

The phone call gives me just enough time to compose myself. My heart’s still beating out of my chest. But nobody has to know that.

I speak without thinking. “You’re going to restrict the entire company from serving this building because of that?”

Stonehart humors me with an answer. “A company’s employees are its most important asset. Their behavior reflects the organization as a whole. If FedEx decided that clown is good enough for them, it tells me they’re sloppy. I do not do business with sloppy organizations.”

“What about the other tenants in the building?” I ask. “Won’t that piss them off?”

When I hear myself and realize how improper my question is, my cheeks flame red again.

Stonehart’s eyes darken, as if he cannot believe I asked that question. I open my mouth to apologize for my imprudence, hating the way my professional skills have evaporated into thin air. I’m cut off by a short, barked laugh.

“Miss Ryder.” He sounds amused. “I believe that is the most direct and honest question anybody has dared ask me in weeks.” He takes my elbow again and leads me to the elevators. I have to take two quick steps to match one of his long strides.

“Yes,” he continues. “They will be ‘pissed off.’ But the perk of owning a building—” he hits the elevator call button, “—is that you get to make executive decisions.” He gives me an unreadable glance as the doors open. “That is, at the risk of being questioned by inexperienced interns.”

If that isn’t a loaded remark, I don’t know what is. I flush scarlet red for the third time since I’ve met him. I’ve never had a man throw me so off balance.

The elevator is packed, for which I’m infinitely thankful. The trip up will give me some time to properly compose myself.

Gratitude turns to panic when the crowd files out, meek as mice, when Stonehart steps in. None of the people waiting in the lobby follow us.

The doors close. I’m alone in here with him. My heart’s beating as fast as a hummingbird’s wings.

He catches me staring. “Impressed?” he asks.

“They know you,” I manage.

His dark eyes flash with amusement. “Astute.”

I’m Scarlett Edwards. I wrote my first book as a college sophomore. After six months of edits, it made its debut as Yours to Savor.

That was at the start of 2013. I’ve written more books since then. You can find them all here.

It’s funny how quickly life changes. I used to think I’d need a degree to get a “Real Job.” Then I wrote a few books, they got somewhat popular, and now I’m living the life as a full-time romance author.

Thanks to all my readers for making my dreams come true!

Love Like the Movies 7Blurb

A contemporary romantic comedy from Simon & Schuster’s Pocket Star by Victoria Van Tiem.

In this irresistible romantic romp, movie fanatic, Kensington Shaw is thrown into love—Hollywood-style–when her gorgeous ex presents a big screen challenge to win back her heart. What girl wouldn’t want to experience the Pretty Woman shopping scene? It’s number two on the list. Or, try the lift from Dirty Dancing? It’s number five. One list, ten romantic movie moments, and a handful of shenanigans later, Kenzi has to wonder…should she marry the man her family loves, or risk everything for a love like the movies?

Review1This book made my got to have list.  I am a HUGE fan of romantic comedies and this book was a fun read.  Kenzi has the luck that I have been running into lately.  When it seems like everyone's life is aces and you are stuck holding the joker.  Just when she thinks it is her turn in the spotlight and to announce her engagement to the most boring man on the planet, her parade is rained on.

I love the way her ex popped back into her life.  Sometimes what you think is over, is really just an intermission.  Shane is the man she was always meant to be with and the way he wins her back is enough to make you go all girly!  This book has 10 of my all time favorite movies mentioned and a HEA to boot.

What more could you want to read and enjoy?  Comment and let me know if you enjoyed it as much as I did!

Through The Oracle’s Mist

Series- Vengelys Series #1

By- Aedan Byrnes

Genre-Historical Paranormal Romance

Published By- Drake Valley Press USA

In the blackest night, with the moon and stars to guide him, she would always be there waiting…

Cyrenna thought she died the day she watched Tynan and his brothers jump through the banishment portal in an act of solidarity with Rigor. Little did she know, it would be the first of many deaths she would experience in her quest to claim his heart. She would surrender not only her immortal soul, but a mortal one repeatedly. Through a deal with the great Oracle, she has multiple mortal lifetimes to change the direction of her future and have a chance with Tynan.

Her journey spans the ages from the GenPei War in Japan and the Silk Road west, to Cromwell, the Three Kingdoms and modern times, bringing her one step closer to forever until she makes a misstep. Then, the burden falls to Tynan. The only thing that is absolute is her fervent hope that he will come, but there’s one big problem.

Through it all, he doesn’t so much as know her name.

And here is an excerpt from 'Through the Oracle's Mist'

We landed on a hard stretch of land with a thump, a squish, a crack, a growl, and a hard exhale. Most of that I think was Dom who landed first and under the rest of us, but I’m sure we each contributed. He’s not a half bad cushion. True to our training we landed and rolled, jumping up into fighting form immediately. With no one else around, we launched on one another. The snarling and the sounds of punches landing echoed back to us, bouncing off the walls that encircled us that we had yet to notice. We were warriors born, bred and trained. We were also brothers, so the fighting went on until fewer of us could stand than not. Though most of us were down, physically drained from the exchanges, our mouths were still in prime fighting form and the verbal bickering and bashing continued long after the beat downs had stopped.

Ass, true to his nature, started in on Rigor with a relentless verbal assault blaming him for everything and anything that came to mind. Probably, a few that didn’t. Rigor, unlike himself, seemed to take it all and not say much. He was as aware as the rest of us that our current situation was largely his fault. Only when Ass stopped to take a breath did Rigor interject.

“You know, you didn’t have to come.”

“As if I had a fucking choice ya big blow hard. ‘Remember the pact, remember the pact…’ you were like a damn Edrin bird anytime we came to high house. ‘Remember the pact and Kyrna don’t shift.’”

Lone, Dom and I looked at each other. I could tell we were all thinking Ass had done a fair impression, though of Rigor or the Edrin we weren’t going to offer opinion. Deno was notoriously quiet. Killer was too. Looking at him, he was fighting his own battle half in and half out of a shift. Good thing to know that we hadn’t lost that ability on our way here. Where here was remained a mystery.

Only after we had wound out of our want to continue the bashing did the situation really sink in. Sitting amongst my brothers in a place that I had yet to notice, I was overcome with the foreign sense of being lost.

I had seen her. The one match to my immortal soul had been revealed and there was nothing I could do about it. I wonder what she is. She was obviously not like my brothers and I. I wonder if, like me, she saw my other form and knew in that moment she had gained and lost it all by my choice without her getting so much as a vote. Her tear had tracked from luminous, but frightened eyes so wide I think I could have seen the flecks in the amber if I’d had a moment longer to look. Her voice was a symphony in the only word she uttered, ‘No.’

I found myself imagining all that might have been, now that it would never be, and for a moment, second guessing my allegiance to my brothers. If I had known the cost first, would I have jumped? Of course I would have.

About the Author-

There is no simple description for Aedan Byrnes. Obsessive, dreamer, reclusive, compulsive, outdoorsman and wordsmith would be among the list if one were started. The displaced Gael lives in the upper Midwest with family between jaunts wherever the road takes him. A frequent traveler, he is as likely to be found rock climbing or spelunking as sitting fireside dreaming or aimlessly floating away.

A lifelong lover of words and writing, he claims a diverse reading appetite and his writing reflects the myriad influences. A self-proclaimed 'reader's writer', he looks for the emotional and the sensory in word combinations, not just the visceral comprehension of phrases in the stories he crafts and his love of all things literary shines through.

(Standalone but is a Sequel/Companion Novel to Captured Lies)

This was fun to choose who the dream cast would be for Deceitful Truths but it was a lot harder than I thought it would be. The people I finally came up with who I think would play the roles really well are:

Tarin Roth - Deceitful Truths is really her story, her journey through something horrible to discover the truth and to save her son.

Natalie Portman would be really good for the role of Tarin. Not only is Natalie beautiful and a good actress but she has the look and the qualities that would fit this character. Tarin was raised in a wealthy home by a strict father, so there were high expectations for how she’d show up and how she’d act. She is always dressed in the nicest clothes, perfectly put together she almost seems snobbish, self-centered but there is an inner strength a need to search for who she is and who’s been messing up her life. I think Natalie Portman would do the role justice.

Graham Knight is the other  main character. He finds himself caught in a web of lies and deceit, someone is not only screwing with his company but that of his business partner’s very wealthy grandmother. All his suspicions are pointing him in Tarin’s direction.

Ben Foster has the look I want for Graham. Graham is someone who is a bit of a nerd/geek but is also very fit and into being active. Ben did such a great job in the movie Lone Survivor and although this role is very different, I think he’d do it really well.

I wanted to include another character from the story.

Dorothea Lindell owns the family winery and has for about fifty years. She is feisty, takes no crap from anyone and has no problem speaking her mind. The latest incident with someone trying to destroy her winery though is testing her resolve and having her question if her supposed-to-be-dead brother is again trying to ruin her life and that of her family.

Betty White would be perfect for this role.

The Pendulum Files

Black Swamp Mysteries # 5 (Can be read out of order)

By- P.M. Terrell

Genre-  Romantic Suspense

Publication Date- March 17th, 2014

Irishman and CIA operative Dylan Maguire joins psychic spy Vicki Boyd for another harrowing adventure, this time on the high seas. Merchant ships en route from China to the United States are being bombed, plunging America into critical shortages. It's Dylan's and Vicki's jobs to find out who is bombing them and why. Their mission takes them into Black Sites, covert activities and international politics. And while the romantic side of Dylan ramps up his relationship with Vicki, they find themselves in the crosshairs of a hired assassin, which not only places their lives in danger but also that of their unborn child.

Character Bio- Vicki Boyd

Vicki Boyd had a normal, happy childhood until the day her parents died in an airplane accident—one she saw weeks before it happened. Overnight, she and her three siblings—a younger sister and two younger brothers—were orphaned and placed into foster care. And overnight, she received national attention for her premonitions.

Not just the media and fascinated public were watching. The CIA was watching as well; specifically Sam Mazoli, the supervisor of an office working with psychic spies. For the first time, he had an opportunity to take a child and mold her into a psychic operative. So when Vicki arrived home from school one day, she found a strange man waiting for her; a man who had adopted her but brought her to an imposing, secure facility resembling an institution. During her teen years, she didn’t have school and girlfriends, proms and boyfriends, and her thoughts didn’t range from getting the keys to the car to hanging out at the mall.

Her teens and early twenties were spent learning how to be the best psychic spy the CIA had ever employed. With just a simple latitude and longitude, she could travel in her mind to any location on Earth, providing information to operatives on nuclear facilities, threats to governments, blueprints of enemy weapons—or anything the CIA wanted but couldn’t physically reach.

But when she is sent on a mission deep in the Amazon jungles and it results in the deaths of innocent children, she’s had enough. She quits the CIA and is determined to start life over in a small town helping an elderly lady who advertised for summer help. It’s her first chance on her own, but she isn’t alone for long… Between Irishman Dylan Maguire and the CIA, who refuse to let her go, she’s in for the ride of her life.
