Excerpt from Amazon:
When the mother that abandoned them years ago suddenly shows up and moves them to New Hampshire, Madison has no choice but to go or lose her family. Shoving her dreams aside yet again, she tries to make a life for her siblings only to discover that nothing is going the way that it should. It's really cold. Her fifteen year old sister acts like a hooker in training. Men act funny around her. Her boss is a real jerk. She feels like an outsider. Her best friend turns out to be a mouthy sixteen year old kid and the incredibly handsome guy renting the room adjoining hers not only hogs the bathroom, taking three showers a day and leaving her with cold water, but he also has a secret. A secret that she becomes a bit obsessed with and can't let go no matter how many times she's warned off.
Detective Ephraim Williams learned long ago not to show any emotion or allow himself to get attached to humans. What was the point? They came and went and he remained. This time wouldn't be any different or so he thought. When his landlady told him that her grandchildren were moving in he didn't expect much, well other than to be left alone. What he didn't expect was to have to fight bloodlust every time he so much as caught the scent of his delectable neighbor's blood or her bombarding him with questions every time she cornered him. If that's not bad enough, a Master from his past has found him once again and is demanding his blood and is willing to do anything to get it, even using the beautiful, irritating, neighbor that makes him feel more than pain for the first time in centuries to get it.
Review:
If you follow me on a regular basis, then you know that I am a R.L. Mathewson fan. I am hoping one of these days I will get the nerve to contact her for an interview!
Madison has been raising her siblings for years, while her mother runs the roads and leaves them behind. When she shows up and tells them she is moving to New Hampshire to stay with her mother, Madison knows she has to go to protect the family. When she arrives and realizes that she finally has an ali in her grandmother, she takes the first deep breath in years.
Ephraim has known pain unlike any other over the years. The years he spent in the magistrates hell of a prison, taught him to never show emotion. After the loss of his brother and family, he learned to go through the motions of fringe relationships and not to become to close to anyone. Until Madison.
She is the first human in a lifetime that has managed to become everything to him. When he is attacked by a Master who is hellbent on walking in the light. As a Pyte, Ephraim walks in the light, has all the perks of being a vampire, and is truly immortal. You can see why the Master would want his blood. However, it kills vampires when they take it by force.
Madison doesn't know what to make of Ephraim at first. The detective has been living in her grandmother's boarding house for several years and seems to have taken the most delinquent child in the school under his wing. Madison has gotten a teaching position at the local school and has been the monitor in detention. She knows there is more to Chris but she has no idea how much.
This book is the beginning of an amazing story and I don't want to fill it with spoilers.
~I purchased this book for my pleasure and review.~
